The Oncology and Haematology Directorate consists of Outpatients within the Colney Centre, Mulbarton Ward and Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy treatment areas. Paperless processes are in place for chemotherapy treatments and in development for radiotherapy with a dedicated software system including electronic paper records. The department has a year-on-year increase in new referrals and treatments and has recently expanded the radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment areas
As post holder, you will provide a high-quality Reception and support service within our busy Reception team in Oncology and Hematology. The Colney Centre is open from 7.30am to 8pm Monday to Friday and occasional weekends/Bank Holidays. You will need to be able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.
You will communicate with patients and their relatives, the general public and a wide range of multi-professional staff, internal and external to the Trust. Your responsibilities will include being the first point of contact for people visiting the department or calling in with telephone enquiries and booking appointments amongst other admin related tasks

1. To provide a support service to the technical, secretarial, medical and nursing staff of the Department.
2. To carry out receptionist duties, including prioritizing and arranging appointments and maintaining the various appointment systems, identifying test requests and investigations, and coordinating the various clinics within the department.
3. To deal with patients and external and internal staff enquiries in person or via the telephone, in a courteous and confidential manner and provide assistance as required.
4. To ensure patients safety and well-being in the waiting area prior to them being called for their appointment and alerting appropriate staff to any cause for concern.
5. To keep a log of telephone requests for investigations in line with department policy, prioritising these and ensuring messages are conveyed to the appropriate technical staff.
