16 July 2024
London, United Kingdom
Fixed Term
Directorate Overview
The Archive Team is part of the Secretary’s Department which is responsible for supporting the Court of Directors and the other key governing committees of the Bank. The Department also includes the Bank’s Records Management function and its Information Centre.
Based in Threadneedle Street, the Bank of England Archive is one of the leading business archives in the country and is of national and international importance. The Archive holds nearly 120,000 items, both paper and digital, covering all aspects of the Bank’s history and operations since it was established in 1694. As well as meeting the internal needs of the business, the Archive is open by appointment to external researchers three days a week. The current team comprises the Archive Manager, four qualified Archivists, and an Archive Assistant.
Job Description
The Archive is looking to recruit a digital archivist for 12 months to support the early stages of digital preservation within the Bank and the project to replace the Electronic Document and Records Management System (EDRMS). This is an exciting opportunity to implement best-practice digital preservation in a new digital preservation service. The Bank’s Archive completed procurement of a digital preservation system (Preservica) in 2023 and has been configuring workflows and ingesting legacy digital Bank records since then. To support a new project to replace the Bank’s EDRMS, the Archive is looking to recruit a digital archivist to fast track the preservation of records from the EDRMS.
