Main duties of the job
To work as part of a team providing to ensure the smooth operation of day to day duties. This will involve dealing with patients, tracking patients through the system, recording data to monitor access times and the maintaining of accurate records of clinics on the computerised Patient Administration System One. To provide additional support within the company as required.
Full training will be provided to ensure competency and will be assessed by the Cardiac Physiologist. The post-holder will accept the responsibility for doing a quality job, aspire to achieve, share a corporate pride in achievements and strive to act as an ambassador for good quality.

Job responsibilities
Main Duties Of The Post-holder
Clinical Duties
The Diagnostic Assistant role will be to undertake a range of duties which involve direct patient care. These will include:
1. Attach ECG ambulatory monitoring to patient.
2. Removal and downloading of ambulatory ECG.
3. Preparation of monitors for the next diagnostic clinic.
4. Discuss with patients issues relevant to their diagnostic investigations.
5. Liaise with Cardiac Physiologist highlighting any concerns re the patient.
6. Maintain accurate documentation with regards to the patient record.
7. Maintain stock levels.
8. Give advice and support to patients and carers, within duties appropriate to grade and level of competence.
9. Communicate closely with other colleagues, reporting on patients condition as appropriate.
10. Carry out, after appropriate training, identified clerical tasks within Diagnostics.
11. Welcome patients attending the centre in a warm, friendly and courteous manner.
12. Update clinical system when patients present.
13. Maintain an accurate manual register of patients in the event of any break in computer service.
14. Notify other departments of any patient arrivals where necessary.
15. Ordering and putting away stationery and stock.
16. Inputting data on computer and updating records.
Other Relevant Duties
Travel to other Clinics when required.
Adhere to policies and procedures of the company and keep up to date with nursing procedures and changes within the role.
To observe national and local policies and procedures in respect of:

Record relevant details of accidents and untoward incidents in accordance with policy.

To undertake such duties as may be required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the grade and individuals level of competence.
Education
Identify training needs of self and participate in relevant in-service education and mandatory training.
To attend staff meetings as required, including working groups to direct and implement change where appropriate.
Quality
Alert other team members to issues of quality and risk in the care of patients.
Ensure own actions are consistent with clinical governance systems.
Practice in accordance with agreed standards of care.
Enable patients to access appropriate professionals in the team.
Ensure stock items under your control are available in the treatment and consulting rooms.
Know how clinical governance affects the HCA role and bring to the attention of more senior staff any specific risk situation.
Know the practices policies in the respect, especially the whistle-blowing policy available in the practice staff handbook.
Be able to manage your own time effectively.
Give and receive feedback professionally and defuse situations using problem resolution skills to reduce potential for formal complaints.

The Post Holder Will Be Required To

* Hand washing

* Decontamination of instruments and clinical equipment
* Reporting and treatment of sharps injuries
* Assist patients and colleagues in adopting sound infection control measures
Know the general principles of first aid and resuscitation to be able to undertake initial actions as appropriate.
Be aware of statutory child health procedures, and statutory local guidance and referral criteria.
Know the health and safety policies and procedures within the workplace, including fire procedures, maintaining documentation, monitoring and maintaining of equipment and furniture within your area of responsibility.
Use the computer monitor safely.
Be able to identify the risks to health of microbiological and chemical hazards within the working environment according to the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health.
Information Process
Record information and activities undertaken with patients and carers in an accurate and timely fashion using manual or computer systems as appropriate.
Input accurate read codes about patients to ensure accurate retrieval of information for monitoring and auditing processes.
Maintain confidentiality of information relating to patients, relatives, staff and the practice.
Take the necessary precautions when transmitting information.
Communication
Communicate effectively with patients and carers, recognising their needs for alternative methods of communication.
Undertake effective communication with patients in specific clinical situations.
Communicate effectively with other team members.
