Description Wood is seeking HV Cable Designers of all levels of experience to join our Transmission & Distribution Ltd UK Cables Design Engineering team. These roles are part of our ongoing growth and not driven by single projects. Whether you are just starting your career or have years of experience, we want you to be part of our expanding team. The positions will focus on supporting underground HV cables construction projects. The positions are based in our UK offices or offer a hybrid working option based on your expertise and our project needs. While we may place you in any of our UK offices, candidates open to working from Horsham or Glasgow may receive preference. Reporting to the Cables Lead Engineer, you will produce UGC systems design studies to support construction and consultancy projects. Responsibilities What You Will Do: Produce UGC systems design studies under guidance to support construction and consultancy projects including: Cable System Design Summary reports. Cable Rating reports. Cable Bonding scheme and Induced Voltage calculations. Cable Forces calculations in different installations and operation scenarios. Cable Sizing calculations. Cable Pulling design and calculations. Cable Installation Design and review of drawings. Select materials and accessories and produce the Bill of Quantities for the project and tenders. Coordinate with suppliers, review of products designs and type test certificates, and support procurement team for technical aspects. Interface with other Wood teams (such as OHL, Substations and Protection teams) and different parties on the project. Support the Operations team during construction period. Duties may vary due to level of candidate expertise, responsibility, and ongoing work requirements. Essential: Minimum ISCED (International Standard Classification of Education) level 4 (post-secondary non-tertiary) HNC in STEM subject preferably with Electrical Engineering content. Basic understanding and grounding of HV Cable Design obtained through initial industry experience. Ability of use CAD design software. Sound communication, numeracy, and IT skills. Multi-tasking skills to effectively deliver requirements, and prioritisation skills to meet deadlines. Awareness of key health and safety impacts on UGC construction contracts. Fluent spoken and written English language. Ability to work effectively in a diverse team. Desirable: ISCED (International Standard Classification of Education) level 7 (Batchelors degree) and/or level 8 (Masters) in Engineering or relevant discipline. Demonstrated experience in working under CDM regulations as a designer. Ability to create PLS CADD Models. Continuously develops own knowledge and abilities. Ability to drive is beneficial.
