Maintenance Engineer | Manchester | £65,000 per annum
The Opportunity:
An exciting opportunity has arisen with one of the UK's leading rolling stock businesses to join their team as a Maintenance Engineer. With their overhaul engineering function transitioning in-house, our client has commissioned the build of a state-of-the-art overhaul facility which will be the first of its kind for their business.
The Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for implementing key facility infrastructure whilst ensuring operational efficiency through effective maintenance. During the early stages of the project, the Maintenance Engineer will define the facilities systems/equipment's layout, specifications for equipment and systems, and also compile maintenance procedures. After this initial phase, these responsibilities shift to continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities:
1. Managing maintenance activities and ensuring compliance with regulations.
2. Continuously optimizing equipment reliability.
3. Reviewing facility design and planning materials and external services.
4. Providing technical support and maintaining the technical library.
5. Monitoring resource usage, conducting audits, and developing reports to improve performance.
6. Engaging in training and refining maintenance procedures while supporting broader business initiatives.
Candidate Essentials:
1. Maintenance Engineering Experience - Preferably in the railway industry, working with heavy equipment like lathes, wheelset presses, welding, and overhead cranes.
2. Strong Planning & Organization - Proven ability to plan and structure tasks effectively.
3. Technical Procedure Analysis & Writing - Skilled in reviewing, analyzing, and authoring technical documentation.
4. Problem-Solving Tools - Experience using methodologies such as 5W2H and 5 Whys.
5. Maintenance Methodologies - Familiarity with Total Productive Maintenance and Autonomous Maintenance.
6. Technical Proficiency - PC literate, with the ability to quickly learn new technologies and software programs.
Qualifications:
1. Level 6 Engineering Degree or higher; will consider HNC/D (level 4/5) in Engineering with strong and relevant experience.
