We are currently looking for dedicated and empathetic SEN Teaching Assistant to work at one of the most wonderful SEN schools in Surrey area with wonderful growth and opportunities within the SEN educational sector. However, as the SEN Teaching Assistant you will be a key factor to contributing and maintaining and supporting the delivery of an appropriate curriculum in a safe, stimulating and caring environment.
This superb position is due to start asap, and would be either on a 12-week temp to perm basis, or on ongoing contract basis – working Monday to Friday 8:30 to 16:00
Main duties for the SEN Teaching Assistant:
. You will be providing emotional support with your small group of SEN students to help them on their learning and discovery journey within education
To support the teacher in the classroom and in other learning environments/activities e.g. swimming pool, P.E. to enable students to make the most of their learning opportunities
Escort various students that have been assigned to you with learning difficulties and disabilities to their classes each day. So that they are in a supportive and inclusive classroom environment so they can reach their full learning potential by also supporting the teachers with administrative duties
Maintain and keep accurate records fully up to date with their daily achievements
Documenting daily observations
Maintain daily administration by keeping their EHCP fully updated. So, all staff and SLT are fully up to date on each student. As our supportive school prides itself on the intricate details that are known about each student giving them the best support. So they can flourish in the journey into their next step into higher education.
Give daily support with academic, sporting and outdoor activities. Therefore help the SEN students to implement independent methods, to support them with their coping mechanisms to solve their day to day personal and social tasks.
Always maintain speech and language communication and install confidence in each student.
Engage with parents/guardians to build healthy relationships on a daily and or weekly basis with either face to face meetings or phone calls
To encourage independence at all times, undertake specific tasks with individuals or small groups of pupils, assist on outings and school trips on foot or in the Minibus. Be aware of school policies and support the implementation of these policies, record pupils’ progress on appropriate recording charts. To work within the specific hours designated by the post
As the SEND Teaching Assistant you will have the primary responsibilities of providing personal care, administration of medication and or medical interventions. Administration of Therapies, Management of Challenging Behaviour.
The suitable candidate for the SEN Teaching Assistant will have:
. Previous experience of working within a SEN Teaching assistant environment especially with students primary and or secondary students with special needs. With a good level of written and spoken English
. Patience and a consistent attitude is essential to giving the students the best level of SEN support and care.
. Have a high level of emotional and physical strength to deal with the changing environments of students with special needs. Plus, a good sense of humour to keep the students happy and motivated in their learning environment. Able to follow through verbal and written instructions delivered in a calm and effective manner
. Have a strong and comprehensive knowledge of compliance and safeguarding procedures and a commitment to equal opportunities
. Relevant qualifications and or training in special educational and related fields are advantageous but not essential.
