Bracknell Forest Council is seeking a qualified and experienced Social Worker with a passion for working with children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and their families. This is an opportunity to lead and develop the social care elements of the SEND strategy, ensuring compliance with the SEND Code of Practice (2015), the Children and Families Act (2014), and the Care Act (2014).
Key Responsibilities:
1. Act as the strategic lead for Social Care's contribution to SEND services across the local authority.
2. Build strong partnerships with Education, Health, and Social Care to enhance service provision.
3. Influence and shape SEND policy through evidence-based best practices at a local, regional, and national level.
4. Lead and support a team including Social Workers, Family Workers, and Administrative Officers.
5. Ensure that children and young people with SEND receive the right support at the right time from appropriately skilled professionals.
6. Represent Bracknell Forest Council at regional and national SEND events.
7. Oversee quality assurance and workforce development to enhance SEND-related training and practice.
8. Support seamless transitions for young people with SEND into adulthood, working closely with Adult Social Care teams.
9. Participate in decision-making panels, multi-agency meetings, and contribute to external inspections (e.g., Ofsted/CQC).
10. Work collaboratively to co-produce services with parents, carers, and partner agencies.
About You:
To be successful in this role, you will need to have:
1. A Social Work qualification (CQSW/DipSW) and registration with Social Work England (SWE).
2. Extensive post-qualification experience working with children and young people with SEND and their families.
3. A strong understanding of SEND legislation and reforms in a social care setting.
4. The ability to negotiate, influence, and build relationships across multiple agencies.
5. Experience in performance management, quality assurance, and workforce development.
6. Knowledge of co-production, participation, and engagement strategies for children with SEND.
7. Leadership skills to inspire and support teams in delivering best practices.
8. A commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people with SEND, ensuring inclusion, safeguarding, and positive transitions to adulthood.
