Job Title : NDIS Support Worker
Reports To : Director / NDIS Manager
Employment Type : Casual / Part-Time / Full-Time
Job Purpose :
The NDIS Support Worker provides personalized support services to individuals with disabilities, ensuring they receive high-quality assistance in personal care, daily living, travel, and household tasks. This role focuses on enhancing participant independence, well-being, and social inclusion while supporting access to the community, transportation, and home-based assistance. The Support Worker tailors services to align with each participant’s NDIS plan goals, promoting their autonomy, dignity, and overall quality of life.
Key Responsibilities :
* Maintain accurate records and progress notes in compliance with NDIS standards.
* Uphold Te Cepi’s commitment to dignity, respect, and person-centred care.
Personal Care & Activities of Daily Living :
* Dressing, grooming, hygiene, showering, and toilet needs
* Mobility support and assistance moving around the home
* Assistance with cooking and meal preparation
* Managing bills and expenses
* Medication reminders (where applicable)
* Engaging in activities of personal interest
* Community participation and skill building
Travel & Transport Assistance :
* Build mobility skills to move independently and achieve daily goals
* Learn to use public transportation confidently
* Support with using public or private transport
* Attend meetings and medical appointments
* Safely run errands, including pharmacy visits and medication pick-ups
* Transport participants to social activities, appointments, and essential outings
Household & Daily Tasks :
* Cleaning stovetops, benches, fridges, and ovens
* Dishwashing and meal preparation
* Vacuuming, mopping, and dusting
* Sanitizing toilets and rubbish bins
* Changing bed linen, laundry, and ironing
Light Household Maintenance :
* General upkeep to ensure a clean and safe living environment
Qualifications & Experience :
* Certificate III or IV in Disability, Individual Support, Community Services, or a related field (Mandatory for high-quality care delivery)
* NDIS Worker Screening Check (Must be current and valid)
* Valid Australian Driver’s License & Reliable Vehicle (For transport and community access support, as required by 0120)
* Manual Handling & Infection Control Training (To ensure safe mobility assistance and hygiene standards)
* Diploma in Community Services, Social Work, or Allied Health (Ideal for more complex support needs and career growth potential)
* Additional Training in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) or Mental Health First Aid (Particularly valuable for 0107 - Daily Personal Activities & 0108 - Assistance with Daily Living)
* Medication Assistance Training (Preferred for supporting medication prompts and administration under supervision)
* Minimum 1-2 years of experience in disability, aged care, or community services (Preferred for those working independently with complex needs)
* Experience with personal care tasks, mobility assistance, and household support (0107 & 0108 specific)
* Proven ability to support individuals in transportation, community access, and independent living skills (Required for 0120 - Household & Transport Support)
* Strong communication skills and ability to work with diverse needs, including people with intellectual, physical, or psychosocial disabilities
* Empathy, patience, and professionalism when supporting participants
* Strong problem-solving skills to adapt to individual needs and challenges
* Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
* Commitment to upholding NDIS Practice Standards and participant dignity
