Job Description:
This post is designed to develop the career of clinicians with an interest in medical education. Applicants will gain a deeper understanding of educational theory and its application to simulation practices to enhance their teaching capabilities. Fellows will also learn about education governance within a large NHS Trust through participation in committees and liaising with education management, including external bodies.
The fellow will support postgraduate simulation within ITAPS. Completion of this fellowship is expected to provide valuable experience in Medical Education, Leadership, and Management, aiding future job applications.
Main duties of the job
Develop the career of clinicians interested in medical education, focusing on educational theory, simulation practices, and education governance within an NHS Trust. Support postgraduate simulation activities within ITAPS. Engage in projects like improving feedback/debrief, developing simulation scenarios, embedding interprofessional training, educational research, and addressing educational challenges.

Job description
Responsibilities include clinical duties such as participation in an on-call rota (obstetrics, ICU, or theatre) on a 1:8 basis, with a maximum shift of 12.5 hours. Most days will focus on simulation activities tailored to the individual. Projects may include improving feedback, developing simulation scenarios, interprofessional training, innovation in education delivery, and educational research.
Supervision will be provided by the department, with Dr. Brid Cagney overseeing the fellowship, supported by Drs. Andrew Hughes & Dr. David Marriott. Objectives and personal development plans will be set collaboratively. Financial and study leave support is available for educational events outside Leicester related to medical simulation.
Person Specification
Training and experience (Essential):
* Full GMC registration
* Primary Medical Degree (MBChB, MBBS or equivalent)
* Recent employment in an anaesthetic capacity (IAC & IACOC)
* FFICM
* FRCA/FCARCSI
* Leadership in teaching
* IT skills
* Participation in teacher training
* Understanding NHS strategy and issues
* Management training
Communication skills (Essential):
* Clear, fluent, and articulate verbal and written presentation skills
Teaching (Essential):
* Experience teaching undergraduates
* Higher qualifications in Medical Education
* Sign-off in IAC & IACOC
* ALS certificate (within last 4 years)
* Experience managing critical incidents in anaesthesia
