Biffa Waste Services is looking for a dynamic Landfill & Gas Development Manager to oversee and enhance LFG infrastructure and optimize leachate systems across our Southern Region landfill sites. This role focuses on driving operational excellence, improving profitability, and ensuring compliance with environmental standards.,
* LFG Infrastructure Expansion:
Collaborate with senior and local Landfill & Gas teams to install and enhance LFG collection systems, driving long-term business performance and profitability.
* Maximise Electricity Generation:
Increase engine efficiency by strategically relocating generators to high-yield locations.
* Business Planning:
Prepare and monitor regional business plans and capital expenditure budgets to ensure cost-effectiveness and achieve profit targets.
* Leachate System Development:
Improve site performance by optimising leachate systems, including chemical usage, power consumption, and gas production.
* Contractor Compliance:
Ensure contractor activities align with Biffa's Contractor Control procedures.
* Continuous Improvement:
Develop and implement programs to regularly update infrastructure plans, maintaining high environmental, health, and safety standards.
* Regulatory Compliance:
Guarantee all installations comply with DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations).
* Team Support:
Provide operational support to local teams, addressing day-to-day tasks and urgent issues as they arise. Nature and Scope Reporting directly to the General Manager, this role holds regional responsibility for improving gas and leachate systems within Biffa's landfill portfolio in the Southern Region. The position encompasses both strategic projects and immediate operational challenges, requiring a proactive approach to achieve P&L and environmental compliance targets.
* Degree in Engineering (or equivalent practical experience).
* Proven project management experience, including budget management (P&L, CAPEX).
* Extensive experience in landfill gas control and utilization.
* Understanding of environmental and regulatory legislation.
* Strong IT skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
* Full current driving license.
Desirable Skills:
* IOSH qualification (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health).
* Member of the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers.
* Knowledge of leachate treatment and management systems.
* High and Low Voltage experience.
