Who are we looking for? We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Engineer [Track, Switches & Crossings] to join our team at Network Rail. You will have a strong technical background in track engineering, with experience in the design, renewals, maintenance, and switches and crossings. A proactive problem-solver, you will work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to ensure our railway infrastructure is safe, reliable, and efficient. Technical Authority’s purpose is to support our front line to deliver safe and efficient performance for passengers and freight. We do this through providing technical leadership and specialist expertise, managing the National Control and Competence Frameworks, facilitating technical growth and lateral learning, and assuring regional delivery.
Our role is to find creative technical solutions to problems, to set effective strategy and policy, to cut red tape, to find better ways of doing things and to provide strong competence and assurance regimes that make sure we do things effectively.
What does the average day look like?
You will act as a focal point for best practice and technical expertise, providing specialist advice and support across a range of key activities. From incident investigation and risk assessment to capability evaluation and asset development, you will play a vital role in ensuring compliance with Network Rail policies, legislation, and international standards. You will support the development and implementation of operational processes and standards, helping to identify and prioritise corrective actions to address defects and improve performance. With a strong focus on data analysis, risk mitigation, and engineering verification, you will contribute to the continuous improvement of technical and asset management. Additionally, you will support Senior Engineers within the team and take on project delivery responsibilities, ensuring work is completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Essential Criteria
·HNC/HND or equivalent qualification or demonstrate equivalent experience (Level 4 / 5)
·Substantial experience in a relevant engineering area
·Sound knowledge of relevant policies and standards
·An understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques
Desirable Criteria
·Degree in a relevant subject (Level 6)
·Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer
·Project management experience and awareness of project management techniques
·Railway industry experience
