Job Description:
The Senior Garage Technician is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and preparation of the garage and equipment for race events. This role involves ensuring that all tools and equipment are in optimal condition, managing the garage setup and pack down, and providing advanced technical support to the race team during events. The position requires extensive technical expertise, leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
What you will be doing:
* Technical Leadership: Provide advanced technical assistance to the race team during events, including tasks such as tyre preparation and management, refuelling, and troubleshooting and resolving pit stop equipment issues.
* Garage Setup and Maintenance: Oversee the preparation of the garage area for race events, ensuring all tools and garage equipment are organized and in optimal condition. Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the garage at all times.
* Equipment Management: Inspect, maintain, and repair tools and equipment used by the race team. Ensure all equipment meets safety and performance standards.
* Inventory Management: Manage inventory of tools, equipment, and spare parts, ensuring adequate stock levels are maintained. Order and restock items as necessary.
* Safety Compliance: Ensure all safety protocols and procedures are followed in the garage. Conduct regular safety checks and report any hazards or issues to the Team Logistics Manager or Chief Mechanic.
* Documentation: Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance, repairs, and inventory. Document any issues or incidents that occur during race events.
* Team Support: Work closely with mechanics and other team members to ensure smooth operations in the garage. Provide assistance and support as needed to ensure the success of the race team.
* Training and Mentorship: Train and mentor junior technicians, providing guidance and support to help them develop their skills and knowledge.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience:
* Technical certification or diploma in Automotive Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, such as a Level 3 National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) or a BTEC National Certificate/Diploma in Vehicle Technology or Engineering.
* Minimum of 5 years of experience in a top-tier motorsport or automotive environment, preferably within Formula 1.
* Strong technical knowledge of automotive tools and equipment.
* Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
* Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
* Strong organizational and time management skills.
* Good communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
* Leadership and mentoring abilities.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
* Ability to work and prioritize within a high-pressure, time-sensitive environment while retaining a methodical approach is essential.
* Extensive domestic and international travel and a willingness to work long and flexible hours, including weekends.
* This position will require lifting heavy objects, repeated bending, squatting, and manual dexterity. The work environment is fast-paced and mentally demanding, involving machinery, 7-post and other rigs, grinding debris, and hazardous fluids.
