This is a unique and exciting opportunity to play a lead role in Education in Shetland.
The Executive Manager for Education and Learning has responsibility for the strategic direction of the Education and Learning Service in Shetland which aims to improve outcomes for all children and young people.
Reporting to the Director Children’s Services, the Executive Manager for Education and Learning is a member of both the Council’s extended Corporate Management Team and the Children’s Services Directorate Management Team.
The Executive Manager takes collective responsibility along with the Director and other managers for directorate decision making and support to Elected Members in determining the Council’s overall strategic objectives and priorities. They provide professional advice to the Council, Chief Executive and Director and to ensure the Council fulfils all statutory requirements and implements policies in respect of Education and Learning.
The post holder will lead, direct and manage an efficient and effective Education and Learning service in accordance with the Council’s values, objectives, targets and statutory obligations. This includes quality assurance, improvement planning and support.

* The grade of this post is as Quality Improvement Manager on the SNCT salary scale
* Salary shown in the advert is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £2,742 per annum (pro rata)
* Permanent Full Time post for 35.0 Hours per Week
* 52.18 weeks per year
* Preferred candidates will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update prior to a formal offer of employment being made
* You must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) prior to starting in post
* Politically Restricted Post - this post is designated under the terms of the Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Act 2009, and the postholder is restricted as to the undertaking of political activity
