Carrington West are assisting their local authority client based in London in the search for an Interim Director of Planning and Building Control. The role will be offered on an initial 5-month basis; a hybrid working arrangement is offered.
All successful candidates will be expected to have sufficient experience supporting a local authority planning department at a director level. Candidates must have experience of leading, managing and delivering strategies that promote and secure the Council's development objectives. Being responsible to the Chief Executive, you will be responsible for the staff and functions within the Development Management, Strategic Planning and Building Control Services.
As Head of Planning, your principal responsibilities will be:
1. Strategic Leadership: Set the vision and future direction for Planning and Building Control services, ensuring innovation and a customer-centric approach.
2. City Plan Implementation: Lead the delivery of Westminster's City Plan, ensuring planning policies align with the Council's strategic objectives.
3. Regulatory and Policy Expertise: Act as the Council's Planning expert, providing strategic advice to Councillors, senior leaders, and external partners.
4. High-Quality Urban Design: Promote a safe, well-planned, economically successful, and socially inclusive city, acting as a champion for sustainable development.
5. Operational Excellence: Oversee Development Management, Planning Enforcement, Infrastructure Planning, and Building Control, ensuring high standards and compliance with legislation.
6. Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong partnerships with Councillors, developers, private sector partners, and public agencies to influence Westminster's future.
7. Budget and Resource Management: Lead a £2 million staffing budget, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery.
8. Leadership and Team Development: Inspire, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of approximately 150 employees, fostering an inclusive and accountable culture.
The contract offered is on an initial 5-month duration with the potential to extend. The council is looking for candidates who will be able to hit the ground running - further details on the role are available upon request.
A comprehensive working knowledge and experience across all areas of planning is essential. It would be beneficial to hold a Planning Degree or equivalent Planning qualification and full membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute, although this is not mandatory.
Carrington West Pay Rate: Up to £800 per day
