We are looking to appoint two enthusiastic and dynamic colleagues to join the gastroenterology service at South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidates will be afforded the opportunity to collaborate with and develop the service.
One post requires an emphasis on education, and the other, a more general approach to the service, but any particular special clinical interest could be accommodated (and encouraged) where possible. The trust has an expanding cohort of Inflammatory Bowel Disease patients; therefore, interest in this area would be welcomed, however, as long as this interest fits in with the service needs of the department and complements the interests and expertise of the existing consultants.
Main duties of the job
There is an expectation that the post holders will provide emergency cover and weekend working. Out-of-hours endoscopy is shared equally by the gastroenterologists - becoming 1:8 with these two further appointments currently being advertised. Weekend cover will entail cover of existing in-patients and assistance in the management of acutely unwell patients with gastrointestinal problems.
The successful candidates will be expected to support undergraduate education providing clinical teaching and supervision of medical students from Warwick and Buckingham Medical Schools.
Job description
Job responsibilities
The Gastroenterology team are keen to continually develop the clinical service. The successful applicant will find a range of exciting clinical and professional opportunities including:
1. Endoscopy - therapeutic endoscopy small bowel imaging and/or bowel cancer screening
2. Physiology - both oesophageal and/or pelvic floor physiology
3. Clinical - any clinical interest can be accommodated including nutrition (to link with the Central England Rehabilitation Unit), obesity (to link with existing hepatology service and to develop a potential future bariatric service), acute gastroenterology (to link with Acute Medicine and Emergency Medicine departments)
4. Teaching - requirement to support clinical teaching for Students from both Warwick Medical School and Buckingham Medical School. The department presently provides relatively little direct teaching to medical students, and sufficient time would be allocated in the timetable to both provide and organise teaching sessions for undergraduate students. We would support the post-holder with academic interests and research related to Medical Education and would encourage close links with both medical schools and their academic departments.
5. Academic/research - huge potential to support clinical research and link with biological sciences at Warwick University
6. Management - the Trust is widely recognised for its organisational success over recent years
