Job overview
We are currently looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated full-time Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist - Complex Housing to join the team of Specialist Housing OT's in supporting the Community Rehabilitation Service.
You will be working as part of the Community Rehabilitation Service, acting as an expert in housing adaptations of properties to meet patients' long-term disability needs, considering equity of service delivery and legislative frameworks.
Your role will include education and training of Community Rehabilitation staff in adaptation work, as well as chairing the specialist housing and adaptations panels to ensure and maintain excellent governance of the legislation and processes around major adaptations. The post will allow you to lead on service developments specific to housing adaptation policies and protocols and work in partnership and collaboration with Cambridgeshire County Council, District Councils and external housing partners.
The ideal candidate will have a strong team work ethic, sense of accountability, accompanied by an ability to work under considerable pressure at times. The post is open to professionals with the right attributes to enhance a team and provide a high level of expertise in housing.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a self-motivated individual who can work as an autonomous practitioner within the multi-professional Community Rehabilitation Service to provide a high standard of care to our patients. Your role will include assessing, planning and developing specialist occupational recommendations for patients with a wide variety of complex needs using advanced, specialist clinical reasoning skills. You will be responsible for your own caseload of patients with complex housing needs.
Your role will include:
* Working closely with external agencies regarding housing adaptation cases, including District Councils, Home Improvement Agencies, Housing Associations, Surveyors, Contractors, Voluntary Services and Care Agencies.
* Chairing the specialist housing and adaptation panels.
* Providing training to community Occupational Therapy staff (registered and unregistered) in adaptation work.
* Demonstrating a good understanding of Social Services and Health legislation.
* Supervising staff and students, overseeing patient recommendations to ensure patients receive high quality care.
You will be required to work within Trust and RCOT guidelines, demonstrate a good working knowledge of national and local standards of practice in line with legal and operational requirements, and use your own professional judgement to vary from established practices where required.

* You will be required to undertake holistic assessment (including those with complex presentations and multi-pathologies) making use of specialist clinical reasoning skills.
* Your role includes providing specialist advice to all members of the multi-disciplinary team, service users and appropriate others, of changes involving current care plans, patients' progress and other relevant matters pertaining to the care of the patient.
* You will use evidence-based practice to ensure clinical care is effective and appropriate. Conduct risk assessments and health and safety assessments, immediately reporting any changes/newly identified risks.
* You will be expected to organise and manage your own time, delegating work appropriately.
* Your role will be actively involved in the development of the service/ organisational aims and objectives of the Community Rehabilitation Service.
* To effectively communicate verbally with patients, carers and colleagues using tact and persuasive skills. This may involve using skills where patients have difficulties in communication, e.g. hearing loss, diminished sight, depression, speech problems, cognitive impairment, behavioural problems and pain. In doing this you will establish and maintain appropriate working relationships with patients, carers, colleagues and other health-care professionals, identifying when to refer into other services as appropriate.
* You will attend MDT Case Reviews as required. This will enable you to assess patient understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid informed consent and to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
Staff development within CPFT is highly valued and you will be supported to attend relevant internal and external courses to develop your knowledge and skills to improve clinical practice as identified as part of your Appraisal process.
