An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead the Moving and Handling Team at Ashford & St Peters Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. You will be based on the St Peter's site but will need to work cross site at Ashford and Woking Hospitals when required. You will work as part of the Trust Harms Free Care Team.
This post is ideally suited to an experienced health care professional, Physiotherapist, Nurse or Occupational Therapist with a current professional registration.
If you have experience in moving and handling of patients, a passion for teaching and a desire to support the health and wellbeing of staff and patients within our trust we would be delighted to have you on board.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead on updating, facilitating and implementing a moving and handling strategy that will eliminate or minimise moving and handling risk activities.
* Interpret and disseminate existing, and new, moving and handling legislation ensuring Trust compliance and best practice.
* Ensure Moving and Handling Policy and Bariatric Handling Guidance is contemporaneous reflecting national guidance and best practice.
* Be responsible for the design, organisation and delivery of innovative and engaging clinical and non-clinical moving and handling training in line with Skills for Health framework and National Health Litigation Authority (NHSLA) standards relevant to moving and handling.
* Promote a safe, secure and healthy environment for patients and staff in line with agreed Risk and Occupational Health Strategies.
* Monitor, analyse and action all moving and handling incidents, identifying trends and escalating these to the Nurse Consultant Harms Free Care.
* Set, review and implement agreed control measures to eliminate/minimise associated musculoskeletal ill health and provide ergonomic advice and consultancy in liaison with occupational health.
* Liaise with suppliers, purchasing Managers, and Procurement on provision and maintenance needs, including the writing of business cases to ensure handling equipment meets the needs of the Trust.
* Lead on multidisciplinary projects related to moving and handling.

Minimum Requirements:
* Undertake specialised holistic moving and handling assessments for the Trust including those with complex presentations or environmental challenges.
* Manage risk reduction through redesign, training and/or equipment provision as required under current legislation.
* Communicate complex information to senior management and general staff to inform them of the range of solutions and management of risks.
* Assess and evaluate the safe ergonomic practice of moving and handling across the Trust.
* Lead the Moving and Handling Team.
General Responsibilities:
* Maintain active status on professional register.
* Act always in accordance with professional code and guiding documents.
* Adhere to Trust Policy and Procedure.
* Maintain up to date skills and knowledge and maintain awareness of professional issues.
* To participate in the appraisal process.
* To support the Harms Free Care Team and organisation by carrying out any other duties as qualified and able.
