Consultant Ophthalmologist with interest in Cataracts

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Ophthalmologist with a special interest in Cataracts based in the Cardiff Eye Unit at University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.
Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.
Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.
You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £106,000 per annum to £154,760 per annum.
Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
Main duties of the job
The Ophthalmology Department serves a population of approximately 475,000 across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, providing a complete range of ophthalmic care across multiple sub-specialties. This is not including the wider Welsh population for more specialist eye care treatment.
There is a commitment to the on-call rota which is currently 1 in 12.
Academic interests will be encouraged; research and teaching in collaboration with Cardiff University's School of Medicine will be expected.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* On GMC Specialist Register for specialty / Specialty Registrar with CCT/CESR (Combined Programme) due within 6 months of interview date
Experience
* Broad training and experience in Ophthalmology
* Specialist training, research, audit, service development activities and experience in Cataract
* Cataract (sub-specialty) Fellowship training outside the UK
* Completion of at least 1 year Fellowship training
Skills
* Evidence of effective team and multidisciplinary working
* Effective and demonstrable communication skills
* Experience with virtual working and EPR
Clinical Governance
* Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding role of audit in improving medical practice
* Evidence of proactive engagement with appraisal and revalidation (or equivalent)
Research
* Evidence of active research interests
* Qualification / Degree in Research
Teaching
* Evidence of teaching medical students and junior doctors
* Qualification in medical education
* Experience in developing allied health practitioners e.g. cataract nurses, optometrists with IP skills
Management
* Evidence of effective leadership skills
* Experience of being Clinical Lead or developing a service
