South Tees NHS Hospitals Foundation Trust is currently seeking 2 Full time, Clinical Coding Team Lead (Band 5), Senior Clinical Coder (Band 4) posts to be based at the James Cook University Hospital Site in Middlesbrough but must be able to travel to Friarage site in Northallerton when required.
The Trust's Clinical Coding Department is responsible for the translation of medical terminology and clinical data, as written by the Clinicians, to describe the patient's diagnoses, treatment or reason for seeking medical attention into a coded format which is nationally and internationally recognised.
Main Duties of the Job
Our Clinical Coding Department is evolving in order to meet the increasing demands of the NHS and to support the Trust's business activity.
Clinical Coder role: The post is challenging and will require you to undertake extensive training which will be provided. An understanding of anatomy and physiology and a familiarity with clinical language are desired.
Senior Coder role: The post holder must have passed their National Clinical Coding Standards Course. Training and support will be provided at specialty level where required and the individual will be encouraged to undertake the ACC coding accreditation.
Clinical Coding Lead: The post holder must have passed their ACC Examination to become an accredited Clinical Coder. Support will be provided at specialty level where required. The individual will be expected to assist with mentoring and training less experienced staff.
All individuals will have knowledge of computers, coding procedures & conventions; knowledge of medical terminology, anatomical and physiological terms; acquired through work-based training.
Although the post will be based primarily at one of the Trust's two hospitals you will be required, as and when, to work at the Trust's other site.

Qualifications Band 5
Essential
1. A minimum of 3 GCSE (or equivalent) passes (to include Biology, Maths and English)
2. IHRIM ACC Qualification (NVQ level 3 equivalent)
3. Successful completion of on the job training including: 21 day clinical coding standards course and 3 yearly refresher courses.
Knowledge
Essential
1. Extensive knowledge of Clinical and Medical Terminology
2. In depth knowledge of ICD10 & OPCS4 classifications and their associated standards
3. In depth knowledge of anatomical & physiological terms
4. Good keyboard use and confidence inputting data using an encoder
Desirable
1. Knowledge of the importance of HRG's
Experience
Essential
1. Extensive coding experience within an acute NHS Trust
2. Significant experience of working to strict deadlines
3. Extensive experience of working with Computers and NHS PAS systems
