Treasurer
Maldon and District CVS is a key local charity working to support the voluntary sector and wider community across the district. We offer a range of support to charities such as funding and governance advice as well as hosting projects that support the community to connect and live well.
We are looking for someone to join our board of trustees in the Treasurer role. The MDCVS board is responsible for the governance and strategy development of the charity, which includes good financial management with compliance with reporting requirements to funders, the Charity Commission, and Companies House.
Board meetings for the CVS are bi-monthly in the evening. Trustees are requested to take on additional tasks outside of meetings such as reviewing policies and paperwork. These can be done at a flexible time to suit the individual.
In addition to the above, the trustee that steps into the Treasurer role has some additional tasks specifically related to supporting the financial management of the charity. This includes:
* Working with the MDCVS Director and Finance Officer to ensure accurate financial record keeping is maintained.
* Carrying out monthly checks using the MDCVS accounting software, QuickBooks, to review record keeping and flag up any queries to the Finance Officer.
* Being a signatory on both current and savings accounts for the charity and authorising payments in line with the charity's financial processes.
* Preparing and reviewing the annual budget and preparing reports for the MDCVS Board on a bi-monthly basis.
* Supporting the production of our yearly financial report and presenting an overview to the board and at the general meeting.
* With the Company Secretary and MDCVS Director, ensuring that accounts are filed with Companies House and the Charities Commission in a timely way.
* Providing recommendations to the board on financial matters such as savings account levels, annual pay reviews, budget deviations, etc.
* Reviewing and supporting funding applications made by the MDCVS Director and/or staff team and ensuring spending parameters are met.
The role of Treasurer requires more input into the charity's day-to-day running than other trustee roles but remains flexible in terms of how and when additional tasks are carried out. As a guide, the commitment requested is around 4 hours per month in addition to the board meetings.
Skills
Knowledge of finance requirements in a similar size organisation is beneficial, which could include:
* Knowledge of business planning
* Budgeting and forecasting
* Collating and explaining reports
* Producing annual reports
* Complying with Company and Charity Law
MDCVS currently uses QuickBooks software to manage its accounts and reporting. Experience with this software would be an asset but not essential as training can be provided.
Board meetings take place bi-monthly and are currently held in the evenings via Zoom. Other tasks may take place from home or at a time convenient to the volunteer.
