In this role you will add value to PXP by: We are seeking an experienced and visionary Chief Risk & Compliance Officer (CRCO) to lead our efforts in risk management, regulatory compliance, and scheme alignment, driving strategic objectives and supporting our business growth. With extensive experience in the financial services industry, particularly in payments and merchant-facing organisations, the ideal candidate will combine a deep understanding of FCA and EU regulations with a proactive approach to adapting to evolving regulatory and market landscapes and driving operational efficiency and scalability to support significant business growth. As the CRCO, you will play a critical role in conceptualizing, strategizing, and implementing robust risk management and compliance frameworks tailored to the payments industry, specific to the UK and EU. Your deep knowledge and expertise will ensure alignment with regulatory standards, card scheme requirements, and our business objectives, while protecting the organization from financial and reputational harm. A typical week as an Chief Risk & Compliance Officer might involve: Risk Management Develop and execute a comprehensive risk management framework designed for scalability and growth within the payments and embedded finance ecosystems. Identify, assess, and mitigate risks related to card schemes, merchant operations, and transaction processing. Monitor and analyse emerging risks across financial, operational, and reputational dimensions. Implement proactive protocols for incident response and remediation to safeguard the business. Utilise risk metrics and key risk indicators (KRIs) to inform strategic decision-making. Compliance Management Ensure compliance with FCA regulations, PSD2, anti-money laundering (AML) requirements, and EU directives. Oversee regulatory and scheme interactions, including engagements with the FCA and other regulatory authorities, Visa, Mastercard, Amex, and Discover/Diners. Drive the development of policies and procedures that ensure robust adherence to legal and regulatory frameworks. Oversee regular compliance audits and prepare reports for senior leadership and the Board. Card Scheme Management Oversee the managed relationships with card schemes, ensuring compliance and efficient operations. Develop strategies to address high-risk merchants and industries while supporting growth. Oversee fraud prevention and chargeback mitigation efforts. Ensure scalability of operations in alignment with scheme requirements. Leadership and Strategy Act as a trusted advisor to the CEO, Board, and senior leadership, aligning risk and compliance strategies with business goals. Foster a culture of accountability, respect, and excellence within the Risk & Compliance team, reflecting our CARE values. Oversee training and awareness programs to promote a strong compliance culture across the organization. Reporting and Governance Present regular risk and compliance updates to the Board and relevant committees. Maintain meticulous documentation to meet audit and regulatory standards. Collaborate with internal and external auditors to address findings effectively. We are looking for someone who has: Proven expertise in risk and compliance roles within the financial services industry – ideally within a payments business - with at least 5 years in leadership roles. Extensive knowledge of FCA regulations, PSD2, AML requirements, and EU directives. Deep understanding of card schemes (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover/Diners) and their compliance frameworks. Experience with merchant-facing organizations, including risk management, fraud prevention, and chargeback strategies. Exceptional strategic thinking and conceptualisation skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risks. A track record of developing a risk and compliance function which supports scalability and significant business growth. Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management abilities. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. A commitment to embodying and promoting our CARE values in all interactions.
