Job Duties
The College of Science, Engineering, and Technology at Norfolk State University, a Historically Black College and University (HBCU), invites nominations and applications for the position of Director of the Center for Materials Research (CMR). The CMR is an internationally recognized research center in the field of photonics, quantum-electronics. and magnetic materials and devices The Center supports the M.S Degree Program in Materials Science and the Ph.D. program in Materials Science and Engineering.
The Norfolk State University community consists of approximately 1,400 faculty and staff to serve over 5,400 students. NSU has academic Colleges/Schools, including the School Of Business, the School of Education, the College of Liberal Arts, the School of Social Work, the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology, and the School of Graduate Studies and Research. Which offers 31 undergraduate, 16 graduate, and three doctoral degree programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Director will:
1. Lead the CMR in developing new initiatives, center-wide proposals and partnerships with academia, government, and industry.
2. The Director is expected to have experience with leading and managing multi-investigator grants, centers, or academic programs.
3. The Director will report to the Dean of the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology, will have a faculty appointment within one of the academic departments in the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology, and is expected to teach and conduct research.
4. This is a 12-month position.

Minimum Qualifications
1. An earned doctorate degree in Engineering or the Physical Sciences.
2. Demonstrated scholarship commensurate of a full professor.
3. Extensive record of scholarly achievements and publications.
4. Substantial experience obtaining grants and/or contracts,
5. Demonstrated experience in establishing research relationships and partnerships
6. Strong project management and organizational skills.
7. Possesses excellent communication (oral and written) skills.
8. Considerable experience managing faculty, staff, budget, and other resources.
9. Demonstrates the ability to work closely and productively with team members.
