Role
As a Solution Architect, you will play a critical role in the National Security domain by translating complex business requirements into robust, scalable, and secure technical solutions. The Solution Architect bridges the gap between a variety of key client stakeholders and technical delivery teams at Roke, delivering mission critical programmes in a calm & resilient manner.
You will be at the forefront of evaluating technology options, defining solution blueprints, and providing technical leadership throughout the entire solution lifecycle. You will ensure that the solutions you are shaping align with enterprise architecture standards, strategic goals, and technology roadmaps.
As a Solution Architect, you’ll ensure the integrity of cloud-based architectures without compromising the prosperity of the U.K.
You will be responsible for
* Collaborate closely with business analysts, product managers, and stakeholders to understand business needs, functional requirements, and non-functional requirements (e.g., performance, security, scalability, reliability).
* Design end-to-end technical solutions that address NS challenges, considering application, data, infrastructure, integration, and security aspects.
* Research, evaluate, and recommend appropriate technologies, platforms, frameworks, and vendor products to be used within solutions.
* Create and maintain comprehensive solution architecture documentation, including diagrams (using standard notations like UML or ArchiMate), specifications, decision logs, and technical blueprints.
* Clearly articulate and present proposed solutions, technical options, and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Relevant skills (but not a requirement to have all of these)
* Proven track record of delivering digital programmes in the Public Sector, National Security or Defence domains
* Substantial experience in software development, systems engineering, or technical analysis
* Demonstrable experience in a Solution Architecture or senior technical design role
* Experience designing solutions across multiple technology domains (e.g., applications, data, infrastructure, security)
* Exposure to security risk analysis and management experience, related to technology platforms
* Detail orientated in nature, capable of assimilating large quantities of information and spotting risk/opportunity
* Strong understanding of software development methodologies (e.g., Agile) and the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
* Knowledge of common architectural patterns (e.g., Microservices, Event-Driven Architecture, N-Tier)
* Good understanding of cloud computing concepts and major platforms (e.g., AWS)
* Strong understanding of security principles (authentication, authorization, encryption, network security)

Where you’ll work
You’ll find our Woking site in a modern building on the outskirts of London. Rated excellent for sustainability by BREEAM & Fitwel certified you’ll feel better for visiting. This site provides key links to our customers in London, is a 5-minute walk from the train station, has secure parking nearby and dedicated cycle storage.
There is an expectation that a significant proportion of your time will be spent working on customer sites in the London area.
Clearance
Due to the nature of this role, we require you to be eligible to achieve DV clearance. As a result, you should be a British Citizen and have resided in the U.K. for the last 10 years.
