Our client is a well established, SME manufacturing company based in Lancaster.
Description
Main Purpose of the Role:
1. Lead and develop the technical team in the design and development of all products.
2. Support the commercial function of the business with technical input for both new & existing customer or technical enquiries.
3. Manage and develop a team of designers and draughtsmen.
4. Responsible for all new & existing product design activity, generating quotes, drawings/models & structural assessments (FEA) utilising Solidworks.
5. Provide technical support for customer enquiries and interface between commercial and operational delivery internally.
6. Main point of contact for design queries for clients or internal team members.
7. Lead the technical design process for both new and existing products which require modification, including preparation of CAD drawings on Solidworks.
8. Identify & deliver cost savings through value engineering without compromising the existing integrity or quality of the product.
9. Manage the company's technical database, ensuring that all products have the appropriate technical drawings that are up to date and accurate.
10. Utilise Solidworks Simulation (FEA) to ensure that products maintain structural integrity & quality.
11. Research new technologies/ideas to enable proactive innovation and maintain market leadership.
12. Create standard ranges of all product streams in assembly and sub-assembly format to allow for quoting and further customisation.
13. Identify appropriate suppliers for new materials or components that meet quality and price requirements.
14. Liaise with operational teams to ensure that products are designed for manufacture in line with customer expectations.
15. Work with the operational team to ensure appropriate testing processes are followed and certified where required.
16. Provide advice, guidance, and assist problem-solving to manufacturing and assembly departments as required.
17. Ensure that materials are delivered to specification by working with existing suppliers.
Profile
1. People Manager or supervisory experience with a proven track record in managing or supervising a small design engineering team.
2. Fully versed and experienced in the use of Solidworks 3D CAD package or similar design software.
3. Understanding of manufacturing technologies, processes, and installation.
4. A solid manufacturing background in a mechanical design engineering role.
5. Able to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clear and concise technical detail.
6. Innovative thinker who can bring solutions to the table.
7. Ability to work independently, self-motivated, with good team working skills.
8. Highly organised, with strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask.
9. High standard computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office packages (Excel, Outlook, Word).
Job Offer
£50,000 to £55,000 plus package.
