Job Purpose
We are seeking a highly motivated researcher to join our team and contribute to the broad spectrum of stroke research studies led by Professor Terry Quinn, Professor of Geriatric Medicine, and Consultant Stroke Physician, Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
As a stroke researcher in the team, you will be required to co-ordinate and conduct several studies within the stroke portfolio. Additionally, you will be responsible for the promotion of research projects to the wider stroke community with the aim of improving participant recruitment to ongoing and future studies.
You must have relevant person-facing research experience that demonstrates the appropriate skills for the role. You will have a track record in the planning, coordination, and conduct of clinical research along with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work to high standards across a variety of tasks with vigilant regard to scientific and regulatory requirements.
Experience of working with people who have cerebrovascular disease is desirable; however, training can be provided.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Work with members of the team to deliver research projects in line with study protocol, funder requirements, and to agreed project milestones.
2. Document and maintain records and databases, drafting technical/progress reports as appropriate.
3. Raise awareness of proposed and current stroke projects within local and wider stroke networks to drive current research initiatives with the aim of improving participant recruitment numbers.
4. Contribute to the presentation of work at international and national conferences, at internal and external seminars, colloquia, and workshops to develop and enhance our research profile.
5. Work with the stroke multidisciplinary team towards identification and evaluation of potentially suitable participants for the Stroke Research Network (SRN) project portfolio.
6. When required, carry out clinical aspects of study protocol or liaise effectively with other members of the research study team to organise study visits.
7. Contribute to the organisation, supervision, mentoring, and training of undergraduate and/or postgraduate students and less experienced members of the project team to ensure their effective development.
8. Perform administrative tasks related to the activities of the research group and School, including Budgets/Expenditure.
9. Carry out modest teaching activities (e.g., demonstrating, etc.) and associated admin as assigned by the Head of School and in consultation with the Principal Investigator.
10. Act as the main contact for enquiries from participating subjects, prospective subjects, clinical staff, and sponsors involved in the studies. This includes responsibility for maintaining the study's dedicated email account.
11. Provide ongoing advice and information to patients/volunteers with regard to their participation in clinical research in order to facilitate effective informed consent.
12. Arrange proper archiving of research data in accordance with the statutory requirements for medical record keeping and the specific requirements of the research study.
13. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School/Director of Research Institute.

Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential
1. A1 SCQF Level 10 (Honours degree) in a relevant subject or a cognate discipline, or equivalent.
2. A2 Knowledge of ICH GCP Guidelines, Medicines for Human Use Legislation (2004), & Research Governance Framework.
3. A3 Knowledge of clinical research regulations and delivery.
Desirable
1. B1 Specialist knowledge of stroke and cerebrovascular diseases.
2. B2 An awarded (or recently submitted or near completion) PhD in subject specialism or equivalent.
Skills
Essential
1. C1 A practical understanding of clinical research methodology, including applicable regulatory requirements, and a proven ability to apply these to the coordination of research studies.
2. C2 Research creativity and cross-discipline collaborative ability as appropriate.
3. C3 Excellent communication skills (oral and written) including public presentations and ability to communicate complex data/concepts clearly and concisely.
4. C4 Demonstrable excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work using own initiative.
5. C5 Time management skills and ability to prioritise own workload across sites.
6. C6 Safe handling, preparation, storage, and shipping of biological samples.
7. C7 Competent in using a broad range of computerised systems, databases, and data sources to support project management, improved communications, information, and data dissemination.
8. C8 Planning and organising complex activities which require formulation, adjustment, and coordination with other professionals within the organisation.
Desirable
1. D1 Possess a good understanding of cerebrovascular conditions and treatment regimens with an ability to use this knowledge to screen for eligibility to studies under the stroke portfolio.
2. D2 Intravenous cannulation/venepuncture.
3. D3 Safe handling of biological samples, such as blood.
Experience
Essential
1. E1 Experience working in a research environment in person-facing research.
2. E2 Operational experience within an NHS or University environment working with clinical researchers and/or other health care professionals.
3. E3 Experience of scientific writing.
4. E4 Proven ability to deliver quality outputs in a timely and efficient manner.
5. E5 Evidence of an emerging track record of high-quality research publications in a relevant field.
Desirable
1. F1 Development and delivery of training to researchers and healthcare professionals.

Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 6, £33,482- £35,116 per annum pro rata.
This position is part-time (20 hours per week) and fixed term until 31 March 2026.
