Supporting the Supply Chain Team, this key role ensures parts purchased for production meet key design characteristics, and that newly-designed parts are properly evaluated against all drawing requirements in support of Production Part Approval (PPAP). As Sunswap’s subject matter expert in metrology, you will advise on suitable inspection / measurement strategies in line with GD&T best-practice; lead the inspection activities of current production parts as well as newly-introduced parts; update and maintain the associated inspection control plans; report on nonconformity; and support quality investigations as necessary to resolve nonconformance. Key responsibilities Support the set-up of the new goods inwards inspection area, by advising on equipment needed. Take ownership of this area by maintaining the condition and calibration of equipment, and by maintaining a safe working environment. Use clear visual management to signpost inspection workflows, and prevent nonconforming material from entering production. Effectively manage the inspection workload amid changing priorities. Ensure the daily inspection targets are achieved, in support of the wider business targets. Inspect incoming parts, materials and plating using control plans and design specifications. Update these control plans as needed, to ensure newly-detected component defects are captured and parts screened accordingly. Support the production line and engineering teams by conducting visual inspection and measurement of parts / assemblies etc. as requested. Support the Supplier Quality Engineer and Supply Chain Team by conducting sample inspections in support of component PPAP approval. Take ownership of the safekeeping of “Golden Samples”, “Boundary Samples” etc, so they can be readily retrieved when needed. Reject nonconforming materials; raise sufficiently detailed Observations that provide the right level of information to drive investigations forward. Communicate non-conformances to the relevant internal stakeholders. Document the outcomes of inspection activities by completing reports. Implement and maintain a system to track equipment out on loan, to ensure borrowers are accountable for its safekeeping and return. Qualifications & experience Extensive experience with a variety of inspection methods and equipment, including CMM, FARO and LASER scanning, surface roughness measurement, etc. Expert in GD&T. Fully conversant with technical drawing notation and can correctly interpret 2D and 3D design data. Literate and numerate with high-level of competency in Microsoft Office and/or similar packages. Great team player; an effective collaborator. Flexible approach on working hours as needed to support the production line. Experienced with CMM measurement and measuring surface roughness. Can present data accurately and effectively. Planning and prioritising activities and an ability to operate with a level of autonomy. Advantageous: Formal engineering qualification. Experience in Confluence and Airtable software tools.
