This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Staff Nurse post on Mulberry 2. Mulberry 2 is a 16 bedded acute mental health treatment ward.
At CPFT, our adult inpatient wards operate an exciting, ambitious model of care, known as the 3-3-3 model; focused on providing the right care at the right time. The Cambridge Wards are known as the Mulberry Wards; Mulberry 1 our Acute Assessment Unit, where patients stay up to 3 days, Mulberry 2, our Treatment ward, where patients stay up to 3 weeks, and Mulberry 3, our Recovery Unit, where patients stay up to 3 months.
The team have invested heavily in the development of our staff. All staff will receive comprehensive training designed to support the operationalisation of the 3-3-3 model and the core skills required. In addition, our team actively supports staff to access training and development opportunities.
Main duties of the job
The wards bold model requires staff to have a commitment to teamwork, a sense of accountability, and an ability to work well under pressure when required.
If you are successful, we will support you in providing quality evidence-based nursing care for our service users with mental and physical health needs. As a staff nurse, you will interact frequently with carers and families providing support and advice where appropriate.
You will be working as an integral part of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) and will be responsible for supporting and leading on the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care on a rotational shift basis. We will expect you to have a good level of knowledge of local, national policies and legislation which govern current service provision.
We will expect you to identify and contribute to the training needs of junior registered and unregistered staff and ensure that issues of equality, diversity and rights are dealt with in accordance with good practice and legislation.

Job responsibilities

1. To carry out a full range of registered nurse duties, including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the patients condition and care with support from the nurse in charge.
2. To establish therapeutic relationships with service users, and the implementation of evidence based therapeutic interventions with appropriate boundaries in accordance with NMC professional code of conduct.
3. To understand NICE quality standards and guidance relevant to area of practice and patient group.
4. To prioritise nursing care, recognise deterioration in a patients condition and alert senior staff immediately.
5. Participate in the health education and explanation of treatment to patients and relatives.
6. Maintain a safe environment when caring for patients, including those requiring enhanced levels of monitoring.
7. To promote involvement of service users, carers, and relatives within the service and for its provision.
8. To ensure that the requirements of the Mental Health Act 2007 are observed, adhered to, and implemented.
9. To escort patients in line with Trust Policy.

Person Specification
Education & Qualifications
* Registered Nurse Mental Health (RNMH) or Registered Nurse Learning Disability (RNLD)
* NMC registration
* Post graduate qualification relating to ward specialism
Experience
* Experience of in-patient services and working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Working with people with mental health difficulties/learning disability
* Experience of providing mentorship
* Experience relating to ward specialism
* Lived experience of mental health
* Experience of providing individual, culturally sensitive care
Skills & Abilities
* Effective verbal and written communication skills, including IT literacy (MS Office).
* Ability to act as a role model, empowering and motivating other team members
* Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care

* Knowledge of mental health presentations and appropriate interventions
