Job Description:
Job Purpose:
The post holder will sit within the SEN Team in the Education Service of Children and Families Directorate. This role involves liaising with parents, SEN Advisory Officers, health and social care professionals, educational psychologists, and staff from schools and colleges, including head teachers. The main responsibility is interpreting reports and advice to write high-quality, statutory Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans that are compliant with the Children and Families Act.
Principal Responsibilities:
1. Interpret complex professional assessments related to children with special educational, health, and social care needs to draft clear, jargon-free EHC Plans. Ensure all needs and provisions are accurately described based on professional advice.
2. Write EHC Plans or Notes in Lieu of a Plan for review before issuance, adhering to statutory deadlines and legal standards.
3. Identify gaps or discrepancies in assessment reports and liaise with SEN Advisory Officers to ensure comprehensive and accurate advice informs the plan.
4. Manage the statutory assessment process using the SEN Database, ensuring all data is accurately recorded and procedures are followed, maintaining confidentiality and data protection compliance.
5. Respond to parental submissions, making appropriate amendments to plans, ensuring options for provision and placement are not unduly restricted.
6. Assist SEN Advisory Officers with casework, including scheduling meetings with parents and professionals.
7. Engage proactively with children, young people, and parents via phone and email to keep them informed and involved in the planning process.
8. Handle requests for personal budgets, calculating and securing agreement for health and care elements, and ensuring proper recording and payment initiation.
9. Prioritize workload to ensure plans are completed within statutory timescales.
10. Provide information for complex cases to support SEN team responses to formal appeals and tribunal cases.
