Job Description
We're looking for a Design Manager to join our Utilities team based in Falmer, Brighton to lead and manage engineering design delivery for assigned water projects on our new 7-year, c£1bn framework with Southern Water.
Location: Falmer Brighton - remote working available, with weekly travel to the office required
Contract: Permanent, Fulltime
Responsibilities
As a Design Manager, you'll provide expert engineering support to the design and construction of the Southern Water portfolio of non-infrastructure, water and wastewater projects. Services covering the counties of Kent, Sussex and Hampshire, including the Isle of Wight.
Your day to day will include:
1. Spearheading and optimising the engineering assurance process for designs prepared by partner at outline design and Capital Delivery partners at tender and construction design
2. Ensuring that the Engineering Design team, design consultants and construction partners are developing technically and economically proficient engineering solutions
3. Implementing design quality procedures upholding right-first-time philosophy adherence
4. Seeking opportunities in enhancing affordability and value throughout the design process
5. Maintaining compliance with Construction Design & Management (CDM) Regulations, managing design-related health and safety risks
What are we looking for?
This role of Design Manager is great if you have:
1. Working towards Chartered Engineer status with a degree level qualification (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline
2. Experience of managing and driving a multi-discipline technical engineering team with a proven track record of driving sustainable performance against challenging business targets
3. Significant knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes and a full driving licence in order to visit various offices / sites
