Mulberry Garden is a therapeutic gardening project that combines gardening skills with basic woodworking to enable those attending to develop a range of personal skills within a safe supportive environment. The successful job applicant will provide additional support that a trainee may need in order to overcome a learning difficulty or disability which may otherwise hinder achievement.
No experience is necessary but it is desirable that the successful candidate has the following:
• Ideally a good basic understanding of gardening and basic woodwork
• Willingness to support with ad hoc personal care – training will be given
• Is physically fit as some manual handling is required
• First Aid qualification, or will do training for First Aid
• Willingness to undertake mandatory training or any other training deemed relevant to the role
• Ability to use initiative during difficult situations that may arise
• Enthusiasm
• Sense of humour
• Respect for others
• Adaptability at short notice
• Commitment to Equal Opportunities and an understanding of Disability Awareness
• It is desirable that you are a driver over 21, hold a valid UK driving licence with a willingness to drive a minibus and transport service users (D1 driving licence would be desirable).
• Willingness to work at other Adult Day Services projects within West Berkshire Mencap as necessary
This role will involve an enhanced DBS check.
