As the Director of Midwifery you will be at the forefront of delivering safe, compassionate, high-quality care while working as part of the perinatal quadrumvirate to align strategic and operational goals and ensuring that our maternity services remain 'good' as rated by the CQC.
Your leadership will shape the professional development of midwives, advocate for the highest standards of care for our women and birthing people and drive the continuous improvement of our services.
You will provide professional leadership, guiding our services with compassion and excellence and working with key stakeholders such as the Maternity & Neonatal Voices Partnership, local and regional systems fostering a positive culture of safety and learning.
The ideal candidate will have experience driving strategic change and fostering an inclusive, positive work culture, along with exceptional communication skills to motivate and inspire teams to deliver outstanding care.
This integral position is part of the senior leadership team within the Care Group and works under the direction of the Care Group Senior Leadership Team with professional accountability to the Chief Nurse. The main purpose of the role is to provide leadership, guidance and support to all nursing and midwifery staff within maternity and neonatal services. The post holder will lead the quality governance, risk management and patient experience for Maternity ensuring safe effective care is consistently delivered.
The post holder is accountable for ensuring the appropriate management and leadership of the midwifery teams, holding Deputy Head of Midwifery, Consultant midwife, Matrons, specialist nurses, ward and department leaders as well as clinical practitioners to account to ensure that organisational performance and national standards and quality indicators are monitored and appropriate action is taken according to results.
This role encompasses the development of services through the implementation of innovative strategies to ensure an empowered workforce at all levels that is fit for purpose and equipped to deliver excellence in care standards, including securing the workforce for the future.

Responsible for the professional leadership across midwifery, including devising, implementing and reviewing strategies for the development of clinical practice, education, and management and quality issues.
Acts as a strong patient advocate ensuring that a culture of continuous improvement and learning is supported in order to drive quality care delivery across maternity and neonates and facilitate the development of clinical practice, to ensure excellent care.
Implementation of the corporate midwifery agenda; taking a specific strategic lead where requested on allocated cross Care Group and corporate roles.
Responsible for ensuring that clinical initiatives and service developments become embedded practice and that staff have a clear understanding and opportunity to contribute to the change process.
Lead, facilitate and contribute to the management and leadership of organisational flow including the utilisation of assessment areas to ensure patient safety.
Proactive leadership which ensures the provision and development of high quality services ensuring that nursing and midwifery care offered is accessible and focused on and responsive to the needs of women and the wider family.
Supports the Chief Nurse/Divisional Director of Nursing in implementing and monitoring clinical governance processes to deliver continuous quality improvements in line with the Trust Quality Framework.
A highly visible leader, accessible and approachable to all staff, patients and public so that open and honest communication and feedback is received and effective assessments of care delivery can be undertaken.
