Further information: We are seeking to appoint Personal Assistants to support the personal and social development of our 20-year-old son so that he can further develop his independence with a view to him joining the labour market in the future.
Our son has autism and global learning delay. Despite this, he is very able, very sociable and talented at sport. He also coaches an inclusive football team as an assistant coach. In addition to this he has a keen interest in popular music, enjoys going to the gym and relishes safe social interaction with peers and young adults. He is a season pass holder at both Hull City and Hull FC.
We are seeking personal assistants to provide support for 2-8 hours per week. Hours can be flexible. The successful applicants will be deeply caring and compassionate with an ability to communicate effectively, provide reassurance, encouragement and practical support so that our son develops his independence.
A summary of the types of activities that our son would require support with are outlined below and will be agreed with the successful applicants based on their strengths or experience.
• Providing support within volunteering opportunities or a work experience setting with a focus on developing employability skills. (2-3 hours per week)
• Accessing community based activities such as leisure, sport or meaningful social opportunities with peers (2-3 hours per week)
• Travelling independently within the locality including road safety and using public transport and private taxis. (2 hours per week)
