As Modern Matron you will oversee the effective running and delivery of services within the Acute Mental Health Adult and PICU wards and will be visible and available to ward staff, patients and carers and be responsive to their experiences of care and concerns about the ward environment. This role provides visible clinical knowledge, expertise and leadership for nurses and other health professionals providing care in an inpatient setting whilst working with mental health community services and community and acute providers to ensure safe, high quality and effective delivery of care. You will have the opportunity to undertake specific service improvement and development projects, as directed by the Service Manager for Acute Care and Clinical Director/Head of Operations using continuous improvement and quality impact assessment methodologies. Fundamental to our Trust being a learning organisation, the matron will undertake complaints and serious incident investigations as required or directed by the Clinical Director, working with the Care Group and Quality and Clinical Performance Directorate Quality Governance leads to identify key themes, trends and required improvement needed. Main duties of the job - - Be highly visible and easily identifiable to staff, patients and their families and/or carers. - Provide clinical leadership and support for nursing staff to maintain clinical and non-clinical standards of care to include the implementation and sustainability of quality improvement. This includes ensuring that Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards are met and exceeded. - Work collectively with respective matrons across the site ensure there is no silos working in the matrons dedicated areas to ensure oversight of St Georges Hospital utilising both the Care Group collective leadership model and matrix working approaches. - Be instrumental in the management of risks across the inpatient areas, maintaining local risk register and ensuring all risks have controls and mitigations in place that are managed, monitored and reduced/closed as appropriate. - To be a visible in respect safeguarding within the clinical area of responsibility / ward environment working with colleagues from Safeguarding Adults and Children as necessary staff development to protect their patients, colleagues and community. - To ensure that safe systems for patients and staff to deliver care are in place, in particular trained staff to identify the deteriorating patient, to undertake resuscitation in all wards and the use of best practice least restrictive techniques in mental health wards.
