Financial Controller

Hours: 37.5 hrs a week (4pm Friday finish!)
Hybrid: WFH once a week with the possibility for more flexibility over time
THE ROLE: The role of Financial Controller has overall responsibility for the Finance department within a leading distribution organisation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Line management of the finance team - 2 staff members
2. Timely and accurate production of management accounts
3. Overall responsibility for all finance functions
4. Responsibility for risk management including banking, insurance and audits
5. Financial reporting to senior management to inform business decisions
6. Payroll submission and reporting, including calculation of commissions
7. KPI / Scorecard reporting
KEY DUTIES:
1. Monthly management accounts and supporting reconciliations, for all P&L and Balance sheet accounts.
2. Monthly VAT returns - reconciling and submitting
3. Monthly KPI / scorecard reports
4. Monthly payroll submission including pension contributions
5. Quarterly WEEE reports
6. Import duty review
7. Ensuring all purchase invoices are processed in a timely manner, including authorising invoices.
8. Supplier payments runs, including reviewing the proposed payments
9. Weekly invoice factor reconciliation and submission
10. Understanding credit limits and exposure to bad debt
11. Ad hoc financial reports and analysis
12. Foreign currency trades
13. Cash flow management
14. Statutory compliance and filing
15. Annual company insurance renewals
16. Additional administration and queries for non-trading companies and overseas entities
17. Holiday cover for other members/functions of the finance team.
18. Any other reasonable request
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
1. Fully qualified (ACA / ACCA preferred) with minimum 2 years post qualification experience or QBE
2. Ideally a combination of experience from practice and commerce
3. A proven track record within a distribution environment is preferred
4. SME experience
5. Line management experience
6. Excellent Microsoft Office skills, specifically Excel incl. Vlookups and Pivot Tables
7. Experience working with an ERP system, ideally Netsuite
8. Experience with payroll administration
9. Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
10. Liaise with all levels of staff within the business
11. Ability to problem solve with a commercial approach
12. Attention to detail
13. Flexible and willing to proactively take on work that will not traditionally be part of the finance role.
