What's involved with this role:
Interim Senior Legal Officer
Bristol
Key Requirements:
1. Qualified barrister/solicitor/legal executive/licensed conveyancer (level 6) or extensive equivalent experience, as appropriate to the practitioner's area of specialism.
2. Prosecution experience - trading standards & consumer protection law, Housing Act prosecutions, environmental health prosecution work.
3. Criminal case preparation/litigation/procedure.
4. Regulatory advice work - general local authority experience in this regard but emphasis on Private Housing work.
5. Advocacy experience - Magistrates Court trials/appeals.
6. Licensing Act 2003 experience - advice/committee work/appeals.
7. Ability to travel to Bristol once or twice a month to attend Court/Committees informing managers on People issues and develop HR for customers and services.
The purpose of the role is to undertake legal work on behalf of the council at a senior level.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide a comprehensive legal service relevant to the practitioner's area of specialism which may include undertaking inquiries, tribunals and attendance at court.
2. Provide professional advice and guidance to services, including information on legal developments.
3. Draft detailed and complex documentation including pleadings, contracts and agreements, and leases and deeds as appropriate.
4. Provide challenge to services to ensure that work is undertaken in the best interests of the council and in accordance with its policies, procedures and codes of practice.
5. Analyse and interpret a variety of complex information in order to solve problems and reach solutions.
6. Undertake research and project work, preparing and presenting reports and information as required.
7. Undertake training and continued professional development in accordance with professional requirements.
8. Demonstrate a significant degree of initiative and responsibility in adopting a problem-solving approach to the work.
