What is the Role
Engineering graduates joining SSEN Transmission will be at the forefront of building a better world of energy for future generations.
HVDC (High-voltage direct current) is the most efficient way to transport electricity over long distances, and it is particularly beneficial for subsea transmission. Due to the increasing need to connect more remote renewable generation schemes, such as offshore wind farms, SSEN Transmission are working on a significant number of new HVDC schemes deployed in Great Britain over the coming years.
This includes work on our Eastern Green Link projects - planned HVDC submarine power cables from the East coast of Scotland to Northeast England to strengthen the National Grid. The two links combined will deliver 4 GW of renewable energy from Scottish wind farms to England. This is a Specialist Pathway seeking degrees in Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
HVDC Engineering Graduates will follow a ‘specialist’ pathway. Specialists will work with experts in SSEN Transmission’s Offshore Delivery directorate, gaining exposure across the team and building a depth of knowledge to utilise in their substantive post. This pathway aims to provide relevant experience which will lead to a permanent substantive post on completion of the programme.
