The NHFM Medical Engineering Team are a highly cohesive team of around 20 Technicians based across 4 main sites at Wansbeck, North Tyneside, Northumbria and Hexham hospitals, providing technical support to clinical teams in maintaining approximately 25,000 medical devices throughout Northumberland. Working in a key role within the Medical Engineering Team, the successful candidate will be responsible for maintenance of a wide range of medical devices throughout their full lifecycle, from acceptance testing, carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, through to decommissioning of devices. Based at The Northumbria Hospital in Cramlington, the successful candidate will be enthusiastic and self-motivated, be able to work unsupervised or as part of a team, often under pressure to meet tight deadlines, to ensure that medical devices are appropriately maintained and are available for clinical use. You will be qualified to HNC level in Electrical & Electronic Engineering or equivalent and have extensive knowledge and experience of maintaining complex electronic medical equipment, including anaesthetic delivery system, patient ventilators and other life support equipment. You will be required to participate in an out of hours emergency on call rota.

Reporting to the Deputy Head of Medical Engineering you will be responsible for providing an efficient and cost effective maintenance service for medical and electronic equipment throughout the Trust.
The range of equipment involved includes ultrasound, anaesthetic machines, life support systems, patient monitoring, communications systems, theatre and pathology equipment.
Total cost of equipment assets in excess of £50 million, spread out over health centres, clinics and hospitals covering over half a million people from Tyneside to the Scottish Borders and to Hexham and Haltwhistle in the west of the county.
You will plan your own workload and ensure that all KPIs are met. You must have a flexible approach to working hours to meet the demands of the service and be able to participate in a formal on call rota.
The post is based at The Northumbria Hospital but you will be required to work at any of the Trust sites as required. As such, you must have a full driving licence and access to a vehicle to carry out your duties.
