Bloomberg News is looking for a real estate reporter based in London to cover the commercial property market across Europe.
We’re seeking someone with excellent news judgement, a deep network of sources and an ability to connect the dots between individual transactions and what they mean for the wider real estate market. The successful candidate will have an instinct and tenacity for breaking news and be equally comfortable digging into complex topics to produce richly reported in-depth investigations and enterprise stories.
You will build sources across the upper echelons of Europe’s largest publicly traded landlords, major private investors, sovereign and pension funds, asset managers, brokers, bankers and developers to unpick the themes shaping the industry.
Writing for Bloomberg’s highly sophisticated financial audience, you will be able to spot stories that show how global macroeconomic and geopolitical trends are impacting the real estate industry and investors' decisions about when, how, where and why to invest in the asset class. An ability to understand and explain all parts of the real estate investment process, from asset allocation and capital raising to financing and restructuring, is vital.
Collaborating with Bloomberg’s real estate reporters across the world to produce global stories and working with local reporters around Europe is a core part of the job. The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic team player who will also relish the opportunity to work with reporters and editors specializing in other asset classes and subject areas to produce highly informative stories.
We'll also expect you to leverage Bloomberg's global newsroom and multiple platforms -- including video, audio and social media -- to amplify our most impressive work across many formats. An ability to work with data and an enthusiasm for telling compelling stories through creative data visualisations is a plus.
Responsibilities:
1. Break news on how global investors are deploying capital in European real estate.
2. Make fast and critical judgement calls to identify the most important stories in coverage.
3. Produce stories that resonate with a diverse audience -- from our most sophisticated terminal users to our diverse base of online readers.
4. Be comfortable working with reporters and editors across the newsroom.
5. Maintain a culture of innovation, and develop new ways to gain the reader’s imagination.
6. Promote diversity of thought and representation throughout our coverage.
Minimum Requirements:
1. A track record of breaking scoops and some level of financial knowledge.
2. At least three years of reporting experience.
3. Strong writing skills and the ability to produce both this-just-in stories and enterprise.
4. Sound news judgement and a talent for looking beyond the obvious story.
5. Ability to excel in a fast-paced global environment and meet urgent deadlines.
If this sounds like you: Apply! If we believe you're a good match, we'll get in touch with you to let you know next steps. Please submit all resumes in English.
