Job Title: Regional Operations Manager - Wastewater Treatment
Base location: West Kent/East Sussex - Base in Kent or Eastbourne. Due to the requirement to visit the sites within the patch, a driving licence is essential.

Hours: 37 hours per week
Salary: Competitive pay plus £400 per month car allowance
Are you an experienced operations leader with a passion for managing teams and optimizing wastewater treatment operations? Southern Water is looking for a Regional Operations Manager to oversee our wastewater treatment facilities across East Sussex and West Kent, including Brighton, Eastbourne, and Tonbridge. You will play a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of 124 sites within this operational patch, leading a dedicated team of 92 people with 8 direct reports.
Key Responsibilities:
* Champion a strong safety culture across all 124 sites, ensuring a safe working environment for all team members, contractors, and visitors. Oversee the implementation of robust health and safety protocols, driving a proactive safety-first mindset.
* Lead and manage the operations of 124 wastewater treatment sites, ensuring that all facilities operate effectively, safely, and in line with regulatory standards.
* Provide strategic direction, leadership, and performance management for a team of 92 staff, including 8 direct reports.
* Ensure the delivery of high-quality wastewater services to local communities, focusing on operational excellence, environmental compliance, and sustainability.
* Develop, implement, and monitor operational strategies that drive improvements in performance, efficiency, and safety across all sites.
* Manage the recruitment, development, and succession planning for your team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
* Maintain close working relationships with other teams across the business to ensure alignment with company objectives and regulatory requirements.
* Develop and manage budgets for the area of responsibility, ensuring cost-effective operations and resource allocation.
We are looking for an operational leader with significant experience in operational management, ideally within the utilities, wastewater, or environmental sector. A strong leadership and people management skills, with a proven ability to manage large, diverse field-based teams and multiple sites, you will have an excellent understanding of health and safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements in wastewater treatment. With your proven track record of driving operational performance, safety, and compliance improvements, your strength in driving continuous improvement projects with Six Sigma or equivalent qualification will be an advantage. As a strategic thinker, you will be making data-driven decisions while managing day-to-day operations and communicating confidently with stakeholders at all levels.
