An opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Specialist Nurse within the Specialty of Rheumatology.
Based in the out-patient department Sunderland Royal, the Rheumatology unit can be exceptionally busy, with clinics held every day. This post may require cross-site and off-site working to meet service demands.
We are looking for a Rheumatology Specialist Nurse who is caring and can cope with a demanding job to join the existing team of dedicated professionals within the unit.
We comprise a team of 7 consultants, 5 specialist nurses, 6 HCAs, 2 specialist physiotherapists, 1 specialist pharmacist, and a specialist occupational therapist.
Main duties of the job
The role will support the current Rheumatology Nurse Specialist team to provide patient education and support, drug monitoring, advice line support, and patient assessment.
You will be supported in utilizing your existing skills while developing the skills and competencies required to work within rheumatology to offer safe, quality experiences to patients. Using the RCN rheumatology nurse framework, the candidate will ensure that each aspect of this framework is acknowledged.
Rheumatology is a research-active department involved in undertaking research to improve patient care. Nurse-led clinics will be a major part of the new candidate's role once the training period is successful, ensuring patient satisfaction is key; therefore, good communication and listening skills are essential.
Job responsibilities
* Work as part of the multidisciplinary team under the direction of the line manager/Matron.
* Continue to develop advanced knowledge and skills within the specialist sphere of practice.
* Support with the planning, delivery, and evaluation of care pathways for a designated group of patients.
* Support the development of nursing practice within the specialist field through the use of evidence-based practice.
* Work as an autonomous practitioner within their sphere of practice.
* Continuously improve clinical standards in line with the clinical governance framework.
* Exercise accountability as set out in the NMC Code.
* Provide specialist clinical advice and support to patients and clinical staff.
* Provide direct access for patients, either face-to-face or via telephone consultation.
* Manage and lead nurse-led clinics in relation to reviewing patients.
* Support and undertake research relevant to the needs of the specialist practice.
* Comply with the Trust's vision, values, and behavioral compact.
Person Specification
Experience
* Experience of care delivery.
* Experience of the specialism, normally gained through working at Band 5.
* Evidence of leading a team.
* Evidence of leading innovation in practice.
* Evidence of leading change management.
* Current Rheumatology experience.
* Experience in conducting research and critiquing clinical evidence.
Qualifications
* Degree in nursing studies or relevant clinical degree.
* Clinical skills accreditation or willingness to complete within 12 months of starting in post.
* Non-medical prescribing or willingness to complete.
Skills & Knowledge
* Basic IT skills.
* Understanding of contemporary nursing issues.
* Knowledge of current professional and clinical governance issues.
* Knowledge of research and clinical audit.
* Time management.
* Ability to assess, deliver, evaluate, and benchmark quality care.
* Counseling and appraisal skills.
