The role
As a Senior Independent Nuclear Oversight Inspector, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You will be responsible for delivering part of the oversight programme, supported by Inspectors and supporting Principal Inspectors as required. This is a new function which is key to delivering our internal regulation activities.
Day-to-day, you'll provide independent oversight of nuclear related activities, promoting attitudes and behaviours that encourage constructive challenge.
* Reporting of findings to the INO (Independent Nuclear Oversite) Principal Inspectors / the Head of Independent Nuclear Oversight (HINO)
* To ensure effective interface with the external regulators (including internal stakeholders) in relation to nuclear, radiological, conventional, environmental, environmental permitting, fire and, security of nuclear and hazardous materials matters for facilities across the Devonport site
* To support site investigations into events that may lead to enforcement action as directed by the executive committee or board.
* To expedite the close-out of INO raised Non Compliance Report's (NCR) and investigation findings, utilising escalation of enforcement action as appropriate.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
Essential experience of the Senior Independent Nuclear Oversight Inspector
* Relevant recent experience in the nuclear regulatory field.
* Detailed knowledge of LCs and ACs and how they are complied with on site.
* Personal drive and determination, but capable of delivering sound judgements, often in a pressurised environment.
* An influential and persuasive approach to achieving objectives, emotionally resilient - able to get the job done in difficult circumstances.
* The ability to work as part of a team, particularly within a programme management environment, to effectively plan, prioritise and be forward thinking with good investigative abilities.
Qualifications for the Senior Independent Nuclear Oversight Inspector
* A degree, or equivalent, in an appropriate scientific or engineering subject.
* National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health Diploma.
* Nuclear Practitioner course Modules 1 to 4 - Desirable.
* Nuclear Warship Support Course - Desirable.
* Qualification or significant experience in auditing and investigations at business unit, company or corporate level.
* Lead Auditors/Investigator Course.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
