Overall Purpose of the Job
To provide exemplary hands-on engineering management duties to contribute to the smooth operation of the site's production objectives and targets. This role requires a minimum of 60-70% hands-on involvement on the factory floor.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Manage and motivate all team members, ensuring they are supported and work in partnership to deliver engineering KPIs that contribute to business KPIs.
2. Aid in the recruitment, retention, and staff development processes to ensure the engineering team has the correct resources at all times.
3. Prioritize and manage the engineering workload/activities for the site and delegate duties to subordinates for best efficiency.
4. Ensure all plant, equipment, and systems are maintained with suitable and sufficient protection as defined by legislation.
5. Detect and rectify any issues in a timely manner that affect the performance or safety of plant or equipment.
6. Develop and deliver a cost-effective engineering stores system.
7. Champion industry best practices and promote the introduction of new technologies, where applicable.
8. Ensure food safety legislation and guidelines, as well as company policies, are adhered to.
9. Adhere to and promote best practice in accordance with company health, safety, and quality regulations.
10. Drive personal development through training and work-based experience.
11. Undertake other duties as reasonably required, within the scope and grade of the post.
12. Develop and implement preventative maintenance systems and inspections.
13. Develop and implement Health and Safety risk assessments for engineering activities in conjunction with the Health and Safety Officer.
14. Be a member of the site's Food Safety, HACCP, TACCP, and VACCP teams.
15. Ensure all machinery and plant operate at optimal speed at all times, with minimal disruption to production.
16. Be responsible for all health and safety aspects.
17. Take a flexible approach to working hours, including on-call duties to resolve any issues outside of standard working hours.
Essential Qualifications / Experience:
1. Excellent communication skills.
2. Driven and motivated with a positive attitude towards colleagues.
3. Relevant qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
4. Food or agriculture experience.
