Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a part time specialist dietitian to work in the west of the county with a working base of Bury St Edmunds. The multidisciplinary team is already supported by an experienced specialist dietitian who works across the age range but these posts are now being developed to build on specialist skills and knowledge to focus on practice with adults.
Main duties of the job
This exciting role expects you to act as a source of expertise on the dietary management of eating disorders to the multi-disciplinary team, community health professionals and others involved in the care of our patients. This includes liaising with colleagues in the local acute trust.
This is a change from being based in a traditional dietetic department and allows for significant personal and professional development. The eating disorders team is a supportive environment respectful of the dietetic role.
Clinical work is varied and hugely rewarding. You will work with patients through the nutritional and physical consequences of eating disorders providing advice to patients at all stages of their treatment. This will include patients at risk of re-feeding syndrome, patients with complex dietary needs i.e. IBS, Coeliac disease, allergies and education on nutrition whilst challenging abnormal eating behaviors.
Working for our organisation
The Trust is in the process of innovative transformation. We are striving to develop our care model to be more aligned with the needs of the local communities. This has created opportunities to not only recognise and consolidate what we are doing well, but also to drive creativity in radically changing service delivery.
These are both challenging and exciting times, in which we are redeveloping how we deliver mental health services in Suffolk. As such, this provides many opportunities for successful applicants to play a key role in bringing about positive change and making a difference, not only at an individual, family or team level, but in shaping the future direction of our services.
Benefits included with this role are:
* A comprehensive in house & external training programmes
* Starting annual leave of 27 days per annum increasing to 33 days pa based on length of service (plus paid bank holidays)
* NHS discounts and many more.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
We are able to open invitations for applications from dietitians with sound transferable skills and an interest in this fascinating clinical field.
We are a cross county team so some work across the Suffolk locality may be required. Local induction and specialist training is available to prepare you for this role and we have local links with specialist dietetic colleagues for additional clinical supervision and professional development.
You will be expected to undertake comprehensive assessments of individual patient’s diets and lifestyle to formulate individualised management and treatment plans ensuring optimal outcomes whilst minimising risk. Assessment will include interpretation of anthropometric, biochemical and clinical indicators, weight history and dietary analysis.
