Pipe Stress Engineer Submarines
Full time;
Derby; 5 days on - site
Why Rolls-Royce?
We are currently looking for Engineers to join the Plant Structural Integrity department in Rolls-Royce Submarines. The Submarines business is responsible for the design, manufacture, supply and through-life support of nuclear propulsion-related products and systems in support of the Royal Navy's submarine fleet.
As a Pipe Stress Engineer, you will play a supportive role in the design, manufacture and safety justification of Nuclear Steam Raising Plant (NSRP) pipework and components. Working closely with other teams and specialist functions (including fluid systems engineers and stress experts), you will carry out ASME B&PVC Section III, NB-3600 and NCD-3600 analyses of pipework systems and produce supporting technical substantiation reports.
The work is interesting and varied; there will be situations in which you will be relied upon to respond rapidly to emergent challenges, providing a vital and valued service to the Submarines enterprise.
What you will be doing:
* Produce pipework substantiation documentation in support of safety case development covering the whole plant life cycle meeting agreed programme dates.
* Using assessment work to develop and substantiate pipework designs, inform through-life management and regulatory approval for current class, in-build, and future class submarines.
* Development and implementation of methodologies to assess NSRP pipework systems.
* Relaying the method and outcome of assessments, clearly and efficiently, to a range of audiences at all seniorities within Rolls-Royce, industry partners and customer organisations.
* Responding to emergent issues, as part of a dynamic team, to support the fleet.
Who we are looking for:
* Qualified to degree level, or with equivalent experience, in mechanical engineering, or similar discipline.
* Able to prioritise tasks and work effectively on multiple projects at the same time.
* Demonstrate interest and expertise in pipework structural integrity analysis.
* Able to communicate effectively with a variety of partner and customer functions both internally and externally.
Desirable:
* Previous experience as a pipe stress engineer within the nuclear industry.
* Familiarity in the use of Autopipe Nuclear and/or pipestress (PepS) pipework analytical software.
* Good IT skills and proficiency in the use of Microsoft office applications and data manipulation tools (eg Python and Excel).
* Experience of working in an industry where safety is a priority and in which components are justified to safety cases and/or design code requirements.
* Membership, or Associate Membership, of a relevant professional institution and working toward chartership.
We're an equal opportunities employer. We're committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive working environment.
To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don't currently already have this in place. Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets, you must hold a UK nationality.
