JOB DESCRIPTION
The cleaning team is responsible for the direct cleaning services and coverage of events as instructed by the cleaning team leaders and the cleaning manager, maximizing the resources available within the team, and ensuring the safe use of equipment and consumables (cleaning materials). This is a hands-on role.
The schools are open from 7:00am to 6:30pm Monday to Friday, with important core hours from 3:00pm to 6:30pm. The cleaning team will work the hours as agreed in their contracts, which may be flexible in agreement with the cleaning manager or estates manager in line with school requirements.
The cleaning team reports directly to the cleaning manager and/or cleaning team leaders.
KEY REQUIREMENTS:
1. Participate in training, question if unclear, and share knowledge openly and clearly with other team members.
2. Training provided on general health and safety.
3. Complete your tasks to the standards required and work fairly with other team members, ensuring you do your share of the tasks while always using the equipment and materials safely.
4. Work safely, paying due attention to what is going on in your area of work. Use signage, check equipment, and avoid trailing leads.
5. Provide cover during absences and encourage other team members to do the same.
6. The cleaning manager may reserve the right to alter the work schedule, rota, and movement of staff to different areas.
7. Report any concerns or issues to the cleaning manager and team leaders regarding any general site issues spotted while doing your work.
8. Arrive for shift on time, suitably dressed in clean uniform, neat and tidy, ready to complete your full shift to the high standard expected.
9. Advise the cleaning manager in time of any issues that might affect the completion of your shift so that alternative arrangements can be made and timely cover put in place.
10. Carry out other duties as required by the school (in line with the core services provided) and as requested by the cleaning or estates manager.
11. Report anything suspicious to the manager, estates, or porters.
12. Be mindful of the importance of working safely around students and the various school activities.
13. Treat work colleagues and others with respect.
14. Ensure that cleaning signs are displayed when required and correctly.
15. Maintain awareness of health and safety requirements and act accordingly.
16. Pre and post checks of equipment used, e.g., carpet shampoo machines.
17. Work closely with estates staff on various matters.
A WIDE RANGE OF CLEANING TASKS:
1. Floors swept, washed, deep cleaned, buffed/polished, vacuumed, and holiday deep cleaned according to surface finish.
2. Furniture, fixtures, fittings, and equipment - wiped over, shampooed, cleaned, and polished according to suitable methods and finish needed.
3. Sanitary ware (toilets and showers) - cleaned to suitable hygiene standards with suitable methods, products, and equipment.
4. Waste removal - general and recycling waste removal.
5. Miscellaneous internal cleans - walls, whiteboards, glass panels, door furniture, banisters, lifts, water fountains, and staffroom facilities with fridges and coffee machines.
ADDITIONAL TASKS:
1. Assisting with lost property items gathering to a central point for the cleaning manager to oversee.
2. Locker clearance and clean out.
3. Deep cleans of cleaning team areas, stores, and equipment checks.
