Job Title: Senior Design / Estimating Engineer

Key Interfaces: Area Manager, Design & Estimating Team, Operations Team, Commercial & Administration teams, CST Design, Testing
Description of Role:
This multi-discipline role is pivotal to the growth and development of the South Region Area business. Reporting to the Design / Estimating Manager, this role provides much diversity, undertaking design and estimating elements of the piling, foundations and ground improvement techniques ensuring compliance with the company management system and alignment with the business strategy.
The successful candidate will:
* Have appropriate design and estimating experience and be conversant in the design of bearing piles, tension piles, laterally loaded piles and embedded retaining walls. Pile / foundation design experience will ideally cover driven piles, cast in-situ piles, mini piles / restricted access piles and ground improvement techniques.
* Work within teams to develop safe and cost-effective engineering solutions that meet the needs of our clients, ensuring that all relevant technical, health, safety and environmental standards are satisfied and provide technical support on complex and challenging projects / schemes both at pre-construction and operational delivery stage.
* Liaise with external approving authorities and Engineers as required.
* Support & mentor less experienced members of the team.
* Engage with technical stakeholders to develop and maintain relationships with Clients and Consultants.
The role will cover all aspects of the Area piling work winning activities with a certain level of autonomy (depending on experience), in respect of pile design and technical sales. Technical support and sales across a variety of foundation solution techniques, and liaison with other Areas will be required in terms of market intelligence, pricing levels and research & development.
The role holder will assist with the management of incoming enquiries, including assessment and prioritisation of opportunities, development of appropriate bid / win strategies and management of estimates / client interactions / negotiations through to project award. Principal Duties/Responsibilities:
* Assess the suitability of incoming enquiries for estimating.
* Ensure that all estimates are prepared in line with company procedures.
* Determine optimum solutions for foundation schemes to optimise contract award potential, maximise profit and minimise our environmental impacts.
* Submit estimates within the required timescales.
* Liaise with group companies for schemes not suitable for the RBL systems and joint collaboration opportunities.
* Follow up on submitted estimates.
* Prepare and issue design packs for awarded projects.
* Arrange handover of new work from the pre-construction team to the operational delivery team.
* Maintain responsibility for management of design changes which occur post contract award.
* Maintain a detailed knowledge of all piling techniques and design standards maintaining a competitive edge in pile design and construction, liaising closely with the companies’ Engineering Director and Chief Geotechnical Engineer.
* Participate in pre-construction and site/client visits with RBL Contracts Managers / QS etc to agree scope of works, exclusions, attendances etc. and to ensure high standards of customer care.
* Implement and manage an effective work winning business strategy to meet targets and budgets set by the company.
* Manage, develop and mentor junior members of the team.
* Maintain and improve the professional and progressive image of the Company.
Other Duties:
* Prepare and deliver presentations for CPD events.
* Attend and participate in marketing events.
* Foster good working relationships with clients whilst maintaining and improving the professional image of the company.
* Any other reasonable duties required by the business.
Qualifications:
* Relevant engineering degree and MSc or bias towards geotechnical engineering / geology being preferred.
* Preferably an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer.
