This post is for a dual accredited Consultant in Paediatric Emergency Medicine. This is a full-time post offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated physician to join a dynamic multidisciplinary team delivering care for adults and children with emergency presentations in Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. The Emergency Department at Whiston Hospital is open 24 hours a day and 365 days a year. This post will join a team of 19 WTE EM consultants of which 1 is dual accredited in adult and paediatric emergency medicine.
Applicants are required to hold Membership of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (UK or equivalent qualifications). Applicants must be eligible for full registration with the GMC at the time of appointment. Applicants must have entry on the GMC Specialist Register via one of the following:
1. Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in adult and Paediatric Emergency Medicine. (The proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview)
2. Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration as above (CESR). (CESR candidates must have written GMC confirmation upon successful application).

Main duties of the job
The Paediatric Emergency Department is purpose-built and opened in October 2023. The facility is state of the art and draws upon the latest thinking on modern emergency care. There are 2 paediatric resuscitation bays, a 5 bedded area that includes 2 high dependency cubicles and a separate CAMHS cubicle, a 6 bedded ambulatory assessment area and an 8 bed observation area.
There is immediate access to all imaging modalities, including CT and MR scanning, and laboratory services, both near patient and laboratory based. These services are available 24 hours daily.
The Trust provides a wide range of major medical and surgical specialties including Critical Care services.
This post is for 10 PAs per week. 75% DCC, 25% SPA. The successful candidate will be expected to work one late shift until midnight each week and two full day shifts which will incorporate SPA time. The weekend rota is worked as a 1 in 6 frequency covering both adults and Paediatric ED. Shift pattern varies for this but includes 0800-1400, 1200-1800 and a late shift 1800-midnight which includes non-resident on-call.
