Our partner SEMH School near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk is seeking a dedicated HLTA / Art Practitioner to deliver both 1:1 Art Therapy sessions and group art classes to students across Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4. This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on children with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour, supporting their emotional wellbeing and personal growth through creative expression.
Our partner school near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk has small class sizes, with a maximum of 10 students per class and a minimum of 3 staff per group. The school prides itself on creating a nurturing environment where pupils feel safe and supported. As an HLTA / Art Practitioner, you will play a vital role in helping students overcome barriers to learning through creative interventions.
Key Responsibilities as an HLTA / Art Practitioner:
Deliver 1:1 Art Therapy sessions to support pupils' emotional wellbeing.
Lead Art classes across Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4 with engaging, creative lessons.
Build positive relationships with pupils, using Art as a therapeutic tool to help manage challenging behaviour.
Encourage self-expression and promote emotional resilience through visual arts.
Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and external professionals to create personalised intervention plans.
Use positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques to support students during difficult moments.
Maintain a calm and inclusive environment where pupils feel safe to explore their creativity.
HLTA / Art Practitioner Skills & Requirements:
Experience delivering Art Therapy or Art lessons to children or young people.
Understanding of SEMH needs and challenging behaviour.
GCSE Maths and English Language (minimum Grade 4 or equivalent).
Ability to inspire and engage students through creative expression.
Knowledge of positive behaviour management strategies.
Must be commutable to near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.
