Peter Symonds is a vibrant sixth form college in Winchester which has been rated by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’ in every respect. We have a large team of committed and talented staff who are at the heart of the success of the College.
We seek an enthusiastic Teacher of Chemistry to join our team of 13 teachers and technicians working with more around 700 students studying Chemistry A level, following the OCR A specification. Chemistry is housed, with Biology and Environmental Science, in a purpose-built Science Centre.
The person appointed to this post should be a graduate of Chemistry or a closely allied subject. Candidates must be capable of competently teaching Chemistry A level but we would also welcome applications from candidates who have not had the opportunity teach A level so far in their career. The successful candidate may also be asked to teach on the BTEC Applied Science course which we hope to launch this year, an ability to contribute to the physics element as well as the chemistry topics on that course would be advantageous
The successful candidate/s will be highly skilled and enthusiastic, with the ability to deliver excellent, effective subject lessons and will model a friendly, team centred approach whilst being committed to working in pursuit of success for our students and department, and the College itself.
We welcome applications from newly qualified or experienced teachers. Please indicate in your application whether you are interested in full or part time work.
Our staff are at the heart of what we do at the College, we are proudly anti-racist and our motto is ‘Counting in ones’ which applies to staff as well as the students. We offer special leave for various special occasions, support from the Hub, staff-run groups, staff choir, Monday night football, regular staff forums, an inclusive, supportive and kind culture, no expectations to answer emails out of hours (with an automated message to alert the sender), lunch provided at all lunchtime meetings, ‘5 days of Christmas’ treats, end of term meals and activities and bike and computer loans to name but a few of our initiatives.
