About the role
As Digital Collections Technician you will play a vital role in providing greater access to our Special Collections and other items of historic value.
The post-holder will lead work on digitising our heritage collections and co-ordinating the work of colleagues from across the library and Keep. They will be responsible for managing the workflows and ensuring that published assets are accompanied by meaningful and accurate metadata. In addition to overseeing publication on the university’s self-managed platforms they will also work with partner sites such as JSTOR to promote wider access to our collections. They will also be responsible for producing and editing clear and compelling narrative copy in order to enhance understanding.
As our digitisation programme will be focused on supporting teaching, research and display, the post-holder will need to work with a variety of internal stakeholders. Given the library’s role in supporting civic engagement, they may also be required to work with community groups and students. They may also be required to manage digitisation work funded by external partners and act as the first point of contact for all enquiries.
About you
You will have a good understanding of common digital media formats, including audio-visual, and experience in managing digitisation workflows. You will be expected to manage your own workload and co-ordinate the work of a variety of colleagues.
Communication skills will be essential as you will be required to write compelling and intellectually accessible text to accompany published collections. You will also be expected to work with colleagues from across the university and external partners such as community groups and researchers from other organisations.
